Announcing a new website

As a resource for all of you internet debaters out there, Secular Pro-Life is proud to introduce Not1in3.com!

Abortion activist groups are making increased use of the claim that one out of every three American women will have an abortion, and many well-meaning people on both sides of the fence repeat the statistic without knowing its deceptive origins. Not1in3.com sets the record straight: the study cited for the 1 in 3 claim actually contradicts that claim, and in any event, the dramatic drop in the American abortion rate since 2008 has completely altered the landscape.

Thanks to a decrease in unplanned pregnancies and better resources for young women who do become pregnant, there's just no feasible way that the lifetime abortion rate is anywhere close to 1 in 3. And that's worth celebrating! Today's girls and young women have much better things to look forward to than abortion.

Abortion advocates plan to push the false "1 in 3" theme on social media this Thursday beginning at 1pm. Hashtags will include #1in3speaks and #1in3. Your job is simple: when you see it, respond with a link to Not1in3.com. Don't be accusatory or feel obligated to engage in a protracted debate. Remember, most rank-and-file pro-choicers are not being deliberately deceptive; they're merely repeating what they've heard from what they believe is a reliable source. Gentle correction is all that's called for here.

While I'd like to close with something like "let's nip this myth in the bud," that's overly optimistic. Abortion advocacy groups will no doubt continue to peddle the myth for as long as they can get away with it. So don't stop after Thursday! After all, it's an easy website to remember. Link to it wherever you see the 1 in 3 claim, for as long as it takes.

And P.S.: If you lead a pro-life organization and would like to endorse this effort, please email your logo to info@secularprolife.org.

I'm a little confused by this website. While it could certainly be true that the data used in the study was somewhat outdated or is no longer relevant, claiming that 3 out of 10 is dramatically different than 1 out of 3 doesn't make a whole lot of sense. 3/10 = 30% and 1/3 = 33.3%, so not1in3.com is just telling me that the study says almost 1 in 3 women will get an abortion by a certain age. This website just makes the prolifers look just a guilty as prochoicers when it come to manipulating statistics to further one's own agenda. Please don't link people to this website.

So... this picture means which of the following:

1. We live in a fairytale world, and angels are going to descend from the skies any day now, causing a mass outbreak of years-long celibacy on the part of anyone who doesn't want a child.
2. Pro-liifers are suddenly going to abandon their real goal of wanting people punished for sex, and promote birth control.
3. We're expecting WW3 to happen next week, and abortion will be replaced by infanticide.
4. The picture is just more meaningless emotional nonsense.

I think this is an excellent plan. These kind of campaigns always illustrate what a small, frustrated, angry minority prolifers are.

I got an idea. Why not have a picture of four 12 year old girls with the crap beaten out of their faces, and have a cute little caption: "Raped and should be forced to remain pregnant."

So ... more reality denial from the anti-choice. Raise your hand if you're surprised. ::looks around and sees no hands::

secularprolife.org said...

The typical anti-choicer isn't much concerned with reality, based on my observations. :-(

Yep, no surprise here.

I think Plum posted that photo. I'll try to find it.

So if abortion is "real murder for sure" then that makes close to 30% of women and girls "real murderers for sure" who should be behind bars for "real murder" should zefs ever attain personhood status, yes? Though, undoubtedly, that number will change if abortion is outlawed, but nowadays those millions of women will simply commit "real murder for sure" by ordering abortion pills online.

The goal of the campaign is NOT to falsely magnify the numbers of abortions but to dispel the stigma attached to abortion by encouraging women to talk openly about their experiences. Seems to me your goal is to keep that stigma alive and well.

The scientific fact is that 70 percent of conceptions do not produce human life. In fact only 30 percent produce humans and 42 percent produce non human life.
For that reason, any choice to have sex is a choice to abort.

What is human in your opinion? Obviously not human DNA.

secularprolife.org said...

A human has the human genotype (DNA) that can be proved only by birth. The process of DNA replication is imprecise and does not produce human life most of the time. So the only way to know if the DNA produced in replication is human is to wait until it is fully expressed at birth.
